Our Program

Throughout the course of this program, strength will be gained through increasing the individual’s neuromuscular capacity and load will only be increased once the athlete can consistently demonstrate proper mechanics. Depending on the skill level of the athlete, the movement being taught, and the intention behind the workout, athletes will be unloaded, slightly loaded or given an opportunity to try a more challenging load. This will all be at the discretion of the coach, not the athlete.

A CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, with additional experience and training working with kids, coaches all classes. Criminal Record Checks are maintained annually for all coaches working with children and teens at CrossFit Qualicum Beach. For more information about our CrossFit Kids Head Coach, see our Coaches page.

Our Fire Breathers program has been running strong since Spring 2015. Each session has a slightly different focus, as we work through skill development of CrossFit’s 9 Foundational Movements: the air squat, front squat, overhead squat, shoulder press, push press, push jerk, deadlift, sumo deadlift high pull and the medicine ball clean. Training in these movements with little or even no weight will challenge balance, speed, coordination, agility, flexibility, accuracy, strength and power. In addition to these functional, lifting-based movements, we will also learn and refine our skills in body-weight exercises such as the push-up, pull up, box jump, burpee, sit up, handstand and ring dip. Classes typically include an aerobic element as well, developing our cardiovascular endurance and stamina through activities like running, skipping and rowing.

CrossFit Teens Program

CrossFit Teens is an opportunity for both new and experienced athletes, Grades 8-12, to focus on strength and conditioning. All classes utilize specifically designed programming under the supervision of CrossFit Teens Trainers. Every movement is performed with skill progression in mind, so this class is open to ALL fitness levels!
